The unique device allows increasing the battery’s service life twice or more, and therefore it significantly reduces operating cost.
The battery parameter monitoring device (УКПБ) was designed specifically to assess the batteries condition. The device architecture was based on the experience gained when operating batteries in railway transport.
Unlike standard solutions that are used for these needs, the УКПБ device algorithm allows calculating the actual batteries’ capacity but not only evaluate it by internal resistance or voltage drop.
The device is integrated into the train system and provides for a set of actions to extend the batteries’ service life: battery diagnostics and its charge profile control.
The УКПБ device initiates prompts to the driver about the condition of the batteries and actions to be taken.
The operation service also receives prompts about the necessary procedures and the performance time.
Since the battery charging function is secondary for auxiliary converters, they usually do not have special batteries’ charge profiles, supplying average voltage and current. Such an approach is extremely undesirable for rolling stock, since the battery is a heavily loaded element and keeps various modes (including impulse ones).
The УКПБ device corrects the situation: it controls the train’s auxiliary converters depending on the batteries condition, forms the batteries’ charge profile that corresponds to the current battery condition. The battery monitoring device measures the actual battery power consumption and, depending on this, generates control commands for auxiliary converters.
As a result, the auxiliary converters operate in normal mode, and the УКПБ device decides what voltage/current should be applied to the battery.
The УКПБ device can be introduced on the existing rolling stock. Herewith, there is no need to change the expensive auxiliary converters. We provide adaptive batteries’ charge on any diesel locomotive, electric locomotive equipped with the battery just controlling the auxiliary converters only.
